The Forest Department arrested two persons on Monday in connection with the illegal hunting of a female sambar in the Bhaisan Ghat forest range of Kanha Tiger Reserve. The action followed a routine patrol during which a Forest Department team noticed two individuals behaving suspiciously and detained them for questioning. A sharp-edged axe was found in their possession and was subsequently seized.
During interrogation, the accused provided information that led the patrol team to the carcass of a female sambar that had been hunted inside the forest. The carcass was recovered and taken into possession by the department.
The patrol team completed the seizure memo and other necessary documentation as per the prescribed procedure and registered a preliminary forest offence case. The carcass was examined by the wildlife veterinary officer of Kanha Tiger Reserve. Samples of different organs and skin were collected and preserved for further forensic examination.
Assistant Director Halon, the Bhaisan Ghat Range Officer, and other Forest Department personnel were present during the proceedings. The two accused were produced before the court in Baihar, which sent them to judicial custody. Further legal proceedings in the case are underway.
