Tiger and Cub Found Dead in Kanha and Panna National Park

Tiger and Cub Found Dead in Kanha and Panna National Park

Forest authorities in Madhya Pradesh have initiated an investigation after two separate tiger deaths were reported from different reserves, raising fresh concerns in the state often referred to as India’s “Tiger State.”

In Panna Tiger Reserve, officials discovered a decomposed tiger carcass during a routine patrol in compartment number 278 of the Vanmarg Sanctuary. According to initial observations, the body is estimated to be around 20–25 days old, which has made it difficult to determine the exact cause of death. Veterinary teams and forest staff conducted a preliminary inspection and collected samples for further examination. A Special Task Force, along with forensic experts and a dog squad, has also been deployed to rule out any possibility of poaching or foul play. Authorities stated that the cause of death will be confirmed only after detailed reports are analyzed, and efforts are ongoing to identify the tiger.

In a separate case from Kanha National Park in Mandla district, a male tiger cub was found dead in the Sarhi forest range. Officials reported that all organs were intact, and the post-mortem examination suggests the cub likely died of natural causes. The area was secured immediately, and a search operation revealed a tigress along with other cubs nearby, indicating normal activity within the group.

Madhya Pradesh is home to several prominent tiger reserves, including Panna, Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Pench, and Satpura. While the state continues to achieve notable success in tiger conservation, such isolated incidents are closely monitored. Officials have confirmed that both cases remain under observation, and further clarity will emerge once complete forensic and veterinary reports are available.
